Role Overview

We are working with a leading professional services firm in Birmingham to appoint a VAT Manager within its internal Firm’s Tax team. This is a specialist role focused on managing complex VAT matters across the firm’s UK and international operations, combining technical advisory work with compliance oversight and process improvement.

You will join a small, highly experienced tax function responsible for a broad range of direct, indirect, employment and partnership tax matters, with a strong focus on VAT advisory, transformation and stakeholder engagement across the business.

This role is suited to a technically strong VAT professional who enjoys working closely with senior stakeholders, contributing to strategic projects, and improving tax processes through a combination of technical expertise and technology enabled solutions.

What You Will Do

As a VAT Manager, you will:

  • Provide VAT advice to internal business stakeholders across finance, risk and wider operational teams

  • Support and oversee outsourced VAT compliance across UK firm entities

  • Act as the primary contact for VAT compliance teams ensuring accurate and timely submissions

  • Support acquisition and disposal activity with VAT input and advisory support

  • Deliver training and guidance to non tax stakeholders across the business

In addition, you will:

  • Lead or contribute to transformation and process improvement initiatives within the tax function

  • Support ERP and finance system changes working alongside finance and business systems teams

  • Identify opportunities to improve VAT processes through automation and digital solutions

  • Provide ad hoc support to senior tax leadership on complex technical matters

What We're Looking For

We are looking for individuals who bring:

  • ACA, ACCA, ATT, CTA or equivalent tax or accountancy qualification

  • Strong experience in VAT or indirect tax within a professional services or in house environment

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capability with attention to detail

  • Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering to deadlines

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders

  • A proactive, technology aware mindset with an interest in process improvement
